2 For 1 Special

I absolutely love this photo shoot. Ever since I saw it, I've wanted to do a photo shoot in a grocery store. I have a great outfit for it, just need the accessories. But stayed tuned. Hopefully I'll be able to do it soon.

The thing that I love the most about this photo shoot is the contrast between something so classy and glamorous with something as mundane and humdrum as a grocery store. Seeing something so fancy in such a commonplace setting makes the commonplace setting seem totally ridiculous. And it makes the fancy outfit seem so fancy that it's almost ridiculous. I just love it.

I think it's also interesting and somewhat funny to see high fashion pieces in ordinary settings instead of the usual grandiose settings they're shot in. It's almost like jesting and poking fun at the world of high fashion, but also at the ordinary world, too...I feel like I'm not making any sense haha.

Basically, I love that by having high fashion pieces shot in commonplace settings, it makes them seem both fancier and more ordinary.

Hope you enjoy the spread :)

Picturesque

Earlier this week, I had the pleasure of doing a photo shoot with my friend Marcus in Fairytale Town.

We've collaborated many times in the past, and I've been very pleased with every shoot we've done. But I was by far more excited for this one than any of the others. I guess because this one was the most...crazy/outlandish one we've ever done.

I'd wanted to do a shoot at Fairytale Town for such a long time, but I never had the clothes for it. I had the vision in my head...just not in reality :/

But finally, I got the perfect outfit! I was so pleased with how it turned out. It was like Alice in Wonderland/Mad Hatt...ress/Harajuku/crazy. I think it went perfectly with all the magical little scenes in Fairytale Town. It was funny because some of the people there actually thought I was like a part of Fairytale Town. I guess that was a good thing haha

I had so much fun styling this outfit and the hair and makeup. It reminded me how much fun styling is and how much I love it. If I had an unlimited budget for these shoots...oh man...hahaha. Someday, though.

The hat, bow, tutu and shoes I got from Prevues
The tights and socks are from Target
And the jacket I got from Bows and Arrows (only $1! Such a score!)

These are some of my favorite pictures from the shoot. I hope you enjoy them :)

Happy Coat :)

I don't usually do outfits posts, but I did feel pretty stinkin' cute today. So I decided to do it. The last few majorly rainy days made me realize that I do not own an adorable rain coat. So that needed to be rectified immediately. I remembered seeing some really cute ones at Target, so I headed down there. They didn't have the one I wanted in my size (of course), but I like the one I got a lot. So it's all good.

Of course, now that I actually own a rain coat, it probably won't rain again until fall. But whatever. Even if that's true, I can wear this bad boy when it's sunny too.

I paired my cute new lil' rain coat with some gray leggings and my tan leather boots and my favorite cream cloche. Ready to go out and do some errands! :)

You can't see the pattern too well, but it's a really cute floral pattern. The colors in it really make the pink in my hair pop (as if it doesn't do that enough of it's own).

All in all, this cute little get up had me feeling all warm and fuzzy inside all day today.

Made me feel like doing this:

I love outfits that make me feel like that.

Capital Decade

Last Tuesday, I had the immense pleasure of attending a 1920's fashion show at the Sacramento Public Library put on by the Art Deco Society of Sacramento. It was absolutely, unbelievably amazing. It was even more amazing than I anticipated, and I had pretty high expectations, which you would know if you knew the magnitude of my love of the 20's.

It was a 1920's fashion show. Hm...my favorite era and my favorite subject at one event...Yeah, I'm going to dress up. Any excuse to dress up in 1920's garb, I'm takin' it.

I was really hoping to find a more night time look, but I was actually really pleased with how my outfit turned out. The shoes and hat I had from before, both purchased at antique stores in my home town. The gloves are my grandma's and the pearls are also mine. I bought the dress a few days before at the Antique Fair on 21'st and X St. It's circa 1975, but has a total 20's silhouette to it. It matched my hat and gloves perfectly, so I had to get it :) I wish I had some lighter shoes to have gone with it...but of course I couldn't find any that fit :/ Oh well. C'est la vie.

I was lucky enough to be accompanied by the always beautiful Kari Shipman of Juniper James, not dressed in 20's garb, but still smokin' hot :)

I thought more people were going to be dressed up, it being a fashion show and all. But I was pretty much the only one. It was funny because I walked in the wrong door to the building and this lady thought I was a model and started signaling for me to come over and stand with the rest of the models. Guess I fooled 'em! Mission accomplished :)

But this older woman was so stinkin' cute! Not vintage, of course, but still 20's inspired.

But the lady at the door was all Decoed out! I absolutely loved her hat. Her velvet robe dress was so beautiful too.

Then there was the show....

Then the clothes...Oh, the clothes.

(I just have to interject here and apologize for how terrible my pictures are. My camera was being super janky :( Most of them are really blurry. I was extremely bummed. But even if they were clear, they still wouldn't have been able to capture the brilliance of the pieces)

This coat was beautiful. Mink collar, I believe. Very simple. I loved the color, though.

What an adorable summer dress! Ah, this model was so cute, too. She totally rocked it. The fabric was so light and just floated beautifully. I loved the hemline.

This was my favorite outfit and didn't get hardly any good pictures of it :( I literally gasped when she came out...Ok I gasped on pretty much every look, but this one especially.

The color, the velvet cape jacket, the floral dress, the hat...sigh. Be still my beating heart. The model looked positively ravishing in the dress...which you can't really see :(

The fitted dropped waist and the handkerchief hem line was such an elegant silhouette. She looked like she was just gliding over the floor on a cloud of purple petals.

"The perfect dress to wear to the baseball game," the MC said. Looking at this and seeing what people wear to baseball games now is really disheartening :/ This dress was so adorable! That is the thing that I love SO much about 20's clothing; not only was it incredible elegant and sexy, it was comfortable and wearable! That's how all women's clothing should be.

Another light, sunny dress. Loved the ruffle details on the front of this dress and under the waist.

Unfortunately most of my other pictures of the day wear were blurry :/ But I got a few decent ones from the evening wear collection, which is good because evening wear is my favorite :)

When this dress came out, I thought, "FINALLY, a dress with fringe!"

This was a simple, silk dress with no waist. But the diagonal panel of fringe along the bottom gave it that little hint of sexiness and elegance. The dress and fringe moved beautifully on her as she walked.

This was a really interesting piece. I had never seen a dress like it before. The patterned brocade was gorgeous, and the fur lining on the bottom was an exuberant little touch. But what I loved most were the sleeves. They are sheer black chiffon, but they have a panel of black velvet down the sides. It was really interesting.

This coat was all kinds of wonderful. The collar was so giant and cuddly and I loved the rows of fur on the bottom.

This outfit...oh my. Cerulean blue, velvet cape. It was stunning. I loved the blue with the magenta purple of the dress.

Almost too fabulous for words.

And the dress was equally fabulous. It was immaculate. Must have been really well preserved because the beading (which was ALL hand done. Yeah. Just let that sink in for a moment) was in great condition. It's really just a basic shift dress, but the beading makes in a fabulous dress that deserves to be in the spotlight out on the town. Her headpiece was great too. It complimented the beading on the dress really nicely.

Yet another great color combination. This pinkish magenta was brilliant and the aqua, floral shrug just made it pop even more.

Ah, the fringe :) Beautiful.

She had a great rhinestone headpiece on. This dress looked simple from a distance, but was actually really detailed with multiple layers of chiffon that gave the dress a really light, airy feel to it.

This was probably my favorite dress from the show. Absolutely ravishing. It was so sexy to me because the beige of the fabric and how light and thin it was gives the illusion that you're not wearing anything--like you are some 1920's goddess.

The black velvet cape she wore with it was beautiful too.

After the show, I snuck back stage to get some better pictures of the dress. The construction was simple, but sewn in a way that made the dress flow beautifully. The two panels are sewn down the front and two bias strips of fabric come over the hip and follow that seam down to the floor. It is so pleasing to the eye and really elongates the body.

The hand-knitted lace collar was incredible. So delicate and detailed.

Her headpiece and feathered fan were amazing.

This dress was also fairly simple, but it had subtle details that made it a beautiful dress for the evening. Like satin panels on the bottom and the delicate chiffon cap sleeves. I also love the color. It is like a really deep gold.

This coat...Oh man. I was THIS close to just yanking it off of her and running off to snuggle inside of it for the rest of eternity. It was simply divine. I believe she said it was rabbit fur and black velvet. The collar was awesome because it could be warn up high around your neck when it's cold...

...or down and open when it's not as cold. It is perfection in a coat. Muuah!

This is such an unflattering pose haha. But this dress was awesome. The fabric was fabuloso.

It was seriously like psychedelic...20's psychedelic. It was so wild. It looked great in the lights.

This evening dress was really stunning. At first I thought it was all one dress, but then the model lifted up the top layer of the dress to reveal that it was velvet embossed on chiffon.

It gave the dress a very unique look. Basically it would change colors depending on what color your slip was. Neat, huh? Yeah, I thought so.

This was a really elegant, paneled gown. It had great movement to it.

I loved her hat!

I was so happy they included some 1920's wedding dresses. This one was definitely my favorite. The lace and beading details were UNreal.

To think that something so delicate and intricate was all done by hand--on SILK no less--blows my mind. What painstaking work.

This one was so cute! I loved the pink details on it. It made it not so wedding-dressy, which I loved.

This one was pretty simple, except....it had hip pads in it!

It was so cool! The hips pads definitely gave it a unique silhouette.

The show also included sleepwear from the 20's! Just in case you wondered how people slept during the 20's. Yes, they were just as glamorous and wonderful in their sleep as they were when they were out on the streets.

There was a lot of Oriental influence in the 1920's, as you can plainly see from this set of pajamas. Ahh I want a pair so badly!

And that was the show!

It was seriously such an amazing show. Every outfit left me breathless. The woman who oversaw the show did such a great job of setting the mood and describing the details of each outfit. It is a night I will never forget. :)
